Ginsenoside Rg3 · 20S-Ginsenoside Rg3
Ginsenoside Rg3 is a tetracyclic triterpenoid saponin found in Panax ginseng (Asian ginseng). It is one of the most pharmacologically active ginsenosides and is present in very low concentrations in raw ginseng but becomes enriched during steaming/processing (red and black ginseng). Rg3 exists in two stereoisomers - 20(S)-Rg3 and 20(R)-Rg3 - which have somewhat different biological activities. The 20(S) form is more commonly studied.,Rg3 has been extensively studied in Asian research institutions for its anti-inflammatory, metabolic, and neuroprotective properties. In China, a ginsenoside Rg3 preparation (Shenyi capsule) was approved as an adjunctive cancer therapy in 2000. Research interest has expanded to metabolic health, cognitive function, cardiovascular protection, and immune modulation. Injectable Rg3 formulations are available through compounding pharmacies in the West.,While the body of research on Rg3 is substantial (hundreds of publications), most human clinical data comes from Chinese studies, and many Western trials are still in early phases. The compound has a favorable safety profile in published studies, and its use in injectable form for metabolic and anti-inflammatory purposes has gained traction in integrative medicine practices.

How it works
Modulates multiple inflammatory pathways including NF-kB and MAPK signaling, reducing pro-inflammatory cytokine production (TNF-alpha, IL-6, IL-1beta) and oxidative stress.,Enhances insulin sensitivity and glucose metabolism through activation of AMPK and modulation of PI3K/Akt signaling, supporting metabolic health.,Exerts neuroprotective effects through reduction of neuroinflammation, promotion of neuronal survival via BDNF upregulation, and inhibition of amyloid-beta aggregation.
