N-Acetyl Semax Amidate is a modified, more stable analogue of Semax, a synthetic peptide derived from a fragment of adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH 4-10). Semax was developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences and has been approved in Russia since the 1990s for treatment of stroke, cognitive disorders, and peptic ulcers. The N-acetyl amidate modification increases resistance to enzymatic degradation, enhancing bioavailability and extending its duration of action.,Semax acts primarily as a neurotrophin stimulator, increasing the expression of BDNF and nerve growth factor (NGF) in the brain. Unlike ACTH itself, Semax has no hormonal or steroidogenic activity. It has been extensively studied for neuroprotective and nootropic applications, with particular interest in its ability to support recovery from ischemic brain injury.,While Semax is a registered pharmaceutical in Russia and Ukraine, N-Acetyl Semax Amidate remains a research compound in Western countries. The parent compound has a substantial body of Russian-language clinical literature, though Western peer-reviewed data remains limited.
