How it works

Serves as the biosynthetic precursor to all major steroid hormones via enzymatic conversion: to progesterone (via 3-beta-HSD), to DHEA (via CYP17A1), and subsequently to downstream androgens, estrogens, and corticosteroids.

Acts as a neurosteroid that positively modulates NMDA receptor activity (enhancing excitatory neurotransmission and memory) while negatively modulating GABA-A receptors (providing mild alerting and mood-elevating effects).

Enhances myelination and neuronal membrane stability in the central nervous system, supporting nerve signal conduction and potentially neuroprotective processes.
