Stinging Nettle (Urtica dioica) - the leaves and root have different applications. Nettle leaf is used for allergic rhinitis (mast cell stabilization), seasonal allergies, and as a nutrient-rich tonic. Nettle root is used for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) symptoms and male hormonal balance via SHBG modulation.

How it works

Nettle leaf and root have distinct mechanisms:

Leaf - Mast Cell Stabilization

Reduces histamine release from mast cells - mechanism for allergic rhinitis benefit.

Root - SHBG Binding

Lignans in nettle root bind SHBG, theoretically displacing bound T to free T. Also may inhibit aromatase modestly.

Root - 5-α-Reductase

Mild inhibition of T→DHT conversion - mechanism for BPH benefit.

Anti-Inflammatory

Both leaf and root reduce pro-inflammatory cytokines.

Nutrient Density

Nettle leaf is rich in iron, magnesium, calcium, B-vitamins, vitamin K - traditional 'spring tonic.'
