Epicatechin

(-)-Epicatechin

100-200mg – 250-500 mg Oral daily
Flavonoid

Epicatechin (specifically (-)-epicatechin) is a naturally occurring flavanol found in high concentrations in dark chocolate (cacao), green tea, apples, and certain berries. It belongs to the flavan-3-ol subclass of flavonoids and has gained research interest for its potential effects on skeletal muscle physiology, cardiovascular health, and exercise performance. Epicatechin has been studied as a natural myostatin inhibitor and follistatin promoter, which has attracted attention in the sports nutrition and muscle-building communities.

How it works

Decreases myostatin and increases follistatin expression in skeletal muscle, shifting the balance toward a pro-anabolic signaling environment. This effect is mediated in part through modulation of the TGF-beta/Smad signaling pathway.

Stimulates mitochondrial biogenesis through activation of PGC-1alpha and SIRT1 pathways, increasing mitochondrial volume and oxidative capacity in muscle fibers. This may improve endurance and muscle fatigue resistance.

Enhances nitric oxide (NO) bioavailability by stimulating endothelial nitric oxide synthase (eNOS) activity, leading to improved vasodilation, blood flow, and reduced blood pressure. Also exerts antioxidant effects by scavenging reactive oxygen species.

What to expect

Early
Days 1–7

Days 1-7: Myostatin/follistatin ratio shifts detectable in blood work within 7 days (per published data at 1mg/kg/day). Nitric oxide effects may improve exercise performance subtly.

Each reference below was re-fetched from its PubMed record, and the quoted sentence was confirmed to appear in that abstract and to support the claim it sits under. Follow any of them to read the source.

Claims we could not support

No abstract we checked supports these for this molecule at this route. That is not the same as saying they are false — it marks where the evidence is missing.

Dose/route: 100-200 mg orally daily. The exact-molecule human abstract did not state dose or route.

Other mechanisms: TGF-beta/Smad, PGC-1alpha/SIRT1, and eNOS. The checked abstract supported the follistatin/myostatin effect only.

Primary safety: GI, antiplatelet, and headache claims. No checked human abstract established these at the displayed regimen.

04

Interactions & stacking

Two different questions: what is documented about running these together, and what is documented about drawing them into the same syringe. A good pharmacological partner can still have to be pinned separately.

Documented together

BPC-157No pharmacological conflict - epicatechin supports muscle physiology while BPC-157 promotes tissue healing
Testosterone CypionateEpicatechin's myostatin inhibition may complement anabolic hormone effects on muscle growth
EnclomipheneNo interaction - independent mechanisms for muscle and hormonal support
NAD+Both support mitochondrial function through complementary pathways

Keep separate

Blood thinners (Warfarin)Flavonoids have mild antiplatelet activity - may potentiate anticoagulant effects and increase bleeding risk

Check any specific pair in the Stack & Interaction Checker, which answers both questions separately. Absence of a documented conflict is not evidence of safety.
