Astaxanthin is the most potent natural singlet oxygen quencher known. Singlet oxygen is generated by UV exposure, mitochondrial respiration, and inflammation. By quenching singlet oxygen, astaxanthin prevents lipid peroxidation in cell membranes, protein oxidation, and DNA damage.
