Eleuthero
Eleutherococcus senticosus · Siberian Ginseng
Eleuthero (Eleutherococcus senticosus, formerly called 'Siberian Ginseng') is an adaptogen from the Araliaceae family - related to but distinct from Panax Ginseng. Active compounds are eleutherosides (different chemical class than ginsenosides). Russian-developed adaptogen research established its use for athletic performance, fatigue, and stress resistance.
Starting dose. 300-600mg — Standardized extract
Morning preferred.
Start here. Every protocol below is ordered lowest-first. Begin at the smallest effective dose, hold about a week to assess tolerance, and step up only if needed.
How it works
Eleutherosides have multiple effects:
HPA Axis Modulation
Reduces cortisol response to stress.
Mild Sympathomimetic
Modest energy and alertness without stimulation magnitude of caffeine.
Immune Modulation
NK cell activation in some studies.
Anti-Fatigue
Improved physical and mental endurance markers.
Distinct from Panax
Different chemistry (eleutherosides vs ginsenosides) and milder effect profile.
What to expect
Days 1-7: subtle effects.
Weeks 1-4: peak benefit.
Weeks 8-12: cycle off.
Evidence
Claims we could not support
No abstract we checked supports these for this molecule at this route. That is not the same as saying they are false — it marks where the evidence is missing.
Dose/route: 300-600 mg standardized extract orally 1-2x daily. No checked abstract stated the complete regimen.
Mechanism: HPA/cortisol, sympathomimetic, NK-cell, and anti-fatigue effects. No checked exact-product abstract supported these claims in the quick-start population.
Primary safety: insomnia/GI effects, high-dose hypertension/antiplatelet activity, and long-term cycling safety. No checked monotherapy abstract established these at the displayed regimen.
Side effects & safety
