How it works

Phosphatidylserine integrates into neuronal cell membranes where it serves multiple critical functions: it maintains membrane fluidity essential for proper receptor function, supports synaptic vesicle fusion during neurotransmitter release, and acts as a 'eat me' signal for cellular cleanup of damaged components. The age-related decline in neuronal PS contributes to reduced membrane fluidity, impaired synaptic transmission, and decreased neuroplasticity - which oral supplementation partially addresses by providing exogenous PS that crosses the blood-brain barrier and incorporates into neuronal membranes.

PS modulates the HPA axis (hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis), specifically blunting cortisol response to acute stressors and high-intensity exercise. The mechanism involves PS interaction with the hypothalamus, where it normalizes ACTH (adrenocorticotropic hormone) release and downstream cortisol production. Multiple RCTs confirm 600-800mg/day PS reduces cortisol response to stress by 25-30% without blunting basal cortisol or interfering with normal HPA function.
