Glycocalyx Support (Arterosil-style)

Arterosil · Arterosil HP

The endothelial glycocalyx is a gel-like layer of glycoproteins, proteoglycans, and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) that lines the entire vascular endothelium. It is essential for vascular function: it senses shear stress and triggers nitric oxide release, prevents leukocyte adhesion (anti-inflammatory), regulates vascular permeability, and protects the endothelial cell layer from damage. The glycocalyx is the FIRST defense barrier of the vascular system - damage to it precedes and drives endothelial dysfunction, atherosclerosis, and microvascular complications.,Glycocalyx degradation is widespread in modern populations, driven by hyperglycemia (diabetes/prediabetes), oxidative stress, inflammation, sepsis, hypertension, and aging. Damaged glycocalyx → exposed endothelium → leukocyte adhesion → atherosclerotic plaque initiation. Restoration of glycocalyx integrity is an emerging cardiovascular intervention target.,Arterosil HP (Calroy Health Sciences) is the most-studied branded glycocalyx-supporting supplement. It contains Monitus, a proprietary blend of rhamnan sulfate (from Monostroma seaweed - structurally similar to heparan sulfate, a key glycocalyx GAG) plus other supportive nutrients. Clinical research has demonstrated improved glycocalyx integrity (measured via PBR - perfused boundary region), endothelial function, and reduced markers of vascular damage. Multiple cardiologists have recommended Arterosil for patients with vascular concerns.

Quick Start
Route
Oral
Start low
1 capsule Arterosil HP (containing Monitus)
Frequency
1-2x daily with meals
Timing

Take with meals to optimize absorption. Typical protocols are 1-2 caps twice daily for 60+ days. Best results may require 6+ months of consistent use. Often combined with omega-3, CoQ10, and other cardiovascular supplements.

How it works

Rhamnan sulfate (the active ingredient in Monitus): a sulfated polysaccharide from Monostroma green algae, structurally similar to heparan sulfate (a key GAG of the natural glycocalyx). It binds to and protects/restores the endothelial glycocalyx, supporting its barrier function and signaling roles.,Glycocalyx restoration: providing exogenous GAG-like compounds may support glycocalyx repair and prevent further degradation. The glycocalyx is constantly turning over (hours to days half-life of components), so continued substrate availability is important.,Anti-inflammatory: a healthy glycocalyx prevents leukocyte adhesion to the endothelium - the first step in atherosclerosis. Restored glycocalyx reduces this inflammatory cascade.,NO bioavailability: glycocalyx damage impairs shear-stress sensing and reduces eNOS activation. Restoring glycocalyx improves nitric oxide signaling, vasodilation, and endothelial function.,Anti-thrombotic: intact glycocalyx provides anti-coagulant properties (heparan sulfate is a natural anticoagulant cofactor). Damaged glycocalyx → pro-thrombotic state.,Microvascular protection: supports capillary integrity in kidneys, eyes, brain - relevant to diabetic complications and microvascular aging.

Interactions & stacking

What's safe to combine, and what belongs in a separate pin.

Safe & synergistic

Most cardiovascular supplementsCompatible with statins, antihypertensives, antiplatelet therapy. Adjunct rather than replacement.
Omega-3 Fatty AcidsBoth support endothelial function via complementary mechanisms - omega-3 reduces inflammation, glycocalyx supports barrier function.
CoQ10Supports endothelial mitochondrial function and NO production.
Aged Garlic ExtractBoth target cardiovascular health - AGE for plaque/BP, glycocalyx support for endothelial integrity.

Keep separate

Anticoagulants (mild caution)Glycocalyx components have mild anticoagulant properties (similar to heparan sulfate). Theoretical additive effect with anticoagulants - monitor if combining.
None majorFew significant pharmacologic interactions reported.

Pharmacokinetics

Illustrative plasma concentration · 24 h
Half-life
Rhamnan sulfate: poorly absorbed intact, metabolized by gut bacteria. Glycocalyx-restoration effects build over weeks.
Peak · Tmax
Not applicable in classical sense - effects build via tissue restoration over weeks.
Elimination
Tissue effects persist for weeks after dosing stops (glycocalyx turnover time).
Activity
Glycocalyx effects build over 4-12 weeks of consistent dosing. Long-term cardiovascular benefits accumulate over months-years.

Storage. Store at room temperature (20-25C) in a cool, dry place. Capsules shelf-stable 2 years.

Regulatory status

Classified as a dietary supplement in the US - no prescription required. Specifically the Arterosil HP branded product is widely available through cardiologists and online. No FDA-approved medical indication.
