Glycocalyx Support (Arterosil-style)
Arterosil · Arterosil HP
The endothelial glycocalyx is a gel-like layer of glycoproteins, proteoglycans, and glycosaminoglycans (GAGs) that lines the entire vascular endothelium. It is essential for vascular function: it senses shear stress and triggers nitric oxide release, prevents leukocyte adhesion (anti-inflammatory), regulates vascular permeability, and protects the endothelial cell layer from damage. The glycocalyx is the FIRST defense barrier of the vascular system - damage to it precedes and drives endothelial dysfunction, atherosclerosis, and microvascular complications.
Starting dose. 1 capsule — Arterosil HP (containing Monitus)
Take with meals to optimize absorption. Typical protocols are 1-2 caps twice daily for 60+ days. Best results may require 6+ months of consistent use. Often combined with omega-3, CoQ10, and other cardiovascular supplements.
Start here. Every protocol below is ordered lowest-first. Begin at the smallest effective dose, hold about a week to assess tolerance, and step up only if needed.
How it works
Rhamnan sulfate (the active ingredient in Monitus): a sulfated polysaccharide from Monostroma green algae, structurally similar to heparan sulfate (a key GAG of the natural glycocalyx). It binds to and protects/restores the endothelial glycocalyx, supporting its barrier function and signaling roles.
Glycocalyx restoration: providing exogenous GAG-like compounds may support glycocalyx repair and prevent further degradation. The glycocalyx is constantly turning over (hours to days half-life of components), so continued substrate availability is important.
Anti-inflammatory: a healthy glycocalyx prevents leukocyte adhesion to the endothelium - the first step in atherosclerosis. Restored glycocalyx reduces this inflammatory cascade.
NO bioavailability: glycocalyx damage impairs shear-stress sensing and reduces eNOS activation. Restoring glycocalyx improves nitric oxide signaling, vasodilation, and endothelial function.
Anti-thrombotic: intact glycocalyx provides anti-coagulant properties (heparan sulfate is a natural anticoagulant cofactor). Damaged glycocalyx → pro-thrombotic state.
Microvascular protection: supports capillary integrity in kidneys, eyes, brain - relevant to diabetic complications and microvascular aging.
What to expect
Weeks 1-4: Glycocalyx repair beginning, no subjective change.
Evidence
Claims we could not support
No abstract we checked supports these for this molecule at this route. That is not the same as saying they are false — it marks where the evidence is missing.
Dose/route: 1 capsule Arterosil HP (containing Monitus); Oral; 1-2x daily with meals. No checked live PubMed abstract verified this exact displayed dose, route, and frequency for the same molecule/formulation and relevant population.

Primary safety claim: Rare GI upset. No checked live PubMed abstract directly verified this source-JSON safety claim at the displayed formulation, route, and regimen.
Interactions & stacking
Two different questions: what is documented about running these together, and what is documented about drawing them into the same syringe. A good pharmacological partner can still have to be pinned separately.
Documented together
Keep separate
Check any specific pair in the Stack & Interaction Checker, which answers both questions separately. Absence of a documented conflict is not evidence of safety.
Pharmacokinetics
Rhamnan sulfate: poorly absorbed intact, metabolized by gut bacteria. Glycocalyx-restoration effects build over weeks.
Not applicable in classical sense - effects build via tissue restoration over weeks.
Tissue effects persist for weeks after dosing stops (glycocalyx turnover time).
Most rhamnan sulfate acts in gut and via systemic effects of metabolites. Direct absorption is limited but functional effects on glycocalyx are documented.
Glycocalyx effects build over 4-12 weeks of consistent dosing. Long-term cardiovascular benefits accumulate over months-years.
Gut microbiome metabolism, biliary excretion of fragments.
Storage. Store at room temperature (20-25C) in a cool, dry place. Capsules shelf-stable 2 years.
Regulatory status
Classified as a dietary supplement in the US - no prescription required. Specifically the Arterosil HP branded product is widely available through cardiologists and online. No FDA-approved medical indication.
