Coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10, ubiquinone) is a fat-soluble quinone naturally synthesized in every cell of the body. It plays two essential roles: as an electron carrier in the mitochondrial electron transport chain (Complex I to Complex III) for ATP production, and as a potent lipid-soluble antioxidant protecting cell membranes from oxidative damage. Ubiquinol is the reduced (active) form of CoQ10, while ubiquinone is the oxidized form - the body continuously cycles between both forms.,Endogenous CoQ10 production peaks around age 20 and declines progressively with aging, reaching ~50% of peak levels by age 65. This decline correlates with reduced mitochondrial function, increased oxidative stress, and age-related diseases. Storage. Store at room temperature (20-25C) in a cool, dry place. Protect from light and heat (CoQ10 is light-sensitive and may degrade). Softgel and liquid formulations are more stable than powder-filled capsules. Ubiquinol is more susceptible to oxidation than ubiquinone - keep tightly sealed. Refrigeration extends shelf life but is not required.
